The Czech language is a West Slavic language with about 12 million native speakers. Czech is the majority language in the Czech Republic and it is spoken by Czechs wh ohave emigrated all over the world. Czech is quite similar to and mutually intelligible with Slovak and, to a lesser degree, to Polish or Sorbian in eastern Germany. Since May 2004, the Czech language is also one of the 23 official languages in the European Union. Best way to quickly learn Czech. Prior to my trip to Prague I bought both the Pimsleur CDs and the Colloquial Czech CDs by James Naughton. I was a true beginner, and the Naughton series completely overwhelmed me - they talk way too fast! The Pimsleur series was fantastic, though. They speak slowly and clearly, start with the basics, and repeat words often as you go through the lessons so you don't forget what you have learned in previous chapters. -- Jane, Seattle, WA, USA
A great system to learn a difficult lauguage. I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the Pimsleur program for Czech. I only wish they had a more advanced version I could move on to! I also purchased the Berlitz cassette, and if I had not had Pimsleur first, I would have thought Czech was impossible. This product in a wonderful way to learn a little Czech for a trip. -- J.
